Cultivating Confidence: Without Real Confidence We are Lost
Confidence is an essential trait for navigating the world and seizing its opportunities. However, maintaining confidence can be challenging, especially in the face of change or uncertainty. It’s normal to experience doubt or fear; these emotions are part of being human. Rather than suppressing them, it’s crucial to acknowledge and manage these feelings constructively. Feel it!
Confidence is not an innate quality that all people just “have”: it´s cultivated through conscious effort and self-reflection. True confidence stems from understanding and believing in your true self. It is a mindset where you trust your capabilities, have faith in your decisions, and feel assured in your actions. This involves a positive self-perception, a sense of self-assurance, and a readiness to tackle challenges or take risks with the belief that you can handle them.
Developing confidence requires embracing imperfections and being open to growth. It’s not about always having the right answers, but about having the courage to try, learn, and grow from both successes and setbacks. Here are some ways I learned to re-build and strengthen my confidence:
- Self-awareness
Understand your strengths and weaknesses. Reflect on past experiences to gain insight into your abilities and areas for improvement. - Experience
This one goes hand-in-hand with setting a goal. You become more confident (automatically) by teaching your mind how to navigate life. Remember that experiences form you and helps you grow. Do not be afraid of throwing yourself on new adventures. Become a “yes” person and see where life takes you. Engage in activities that challenge you. Each accomplishment, no matter how small, helps build your confidence, and character. - Constructive Feedback
Seek feedback from trusted individuals in your life, or through a mentor of your choice. Use their insights to improve and grow. I find it helpful to reach out to past care-takers, or Allah alone when faced with adversity or moments of shortcomings. Support can come from so many different places, you just got to look for it in the right places. - Positive Self-talk
To say this point is important, is an understatement. It is truly essential to speak positivity into your life. No matter what your next venture is, always remain calm and show yourself some love. Become your own place of peace. Replace negative thoughts with daily positive affirmations. Remind yourself of your achievements and capabilities. Give yourself a clap on your shoulders sometimes! - Goal setting
While on the verge of cultivating a healthy confidence, strive to reach a goal. It can be as little as waking up early at 5am in the morning to hit the gym, or praying all your daily Salah. The smallest goals you set for yourself, can lead to greatness long-term as your mindset will adapt to larger and larger tasks overtime. Set realistic and achievable goals, and be delusional with those dreams as time pass. Progress towards these goals boosts your confidence as you witness your own growth.
By adopting these practices, you can cultivate a resilient and confident mindset. Remember, confidence is a journey, not a destination. It evolves with you as you navigate life’s challenges and opportunities.
Water your own bucket first, only you can take care of it – meaning you are the wild flower that needs to grow and only you have the access to develop and flourish as you should!

Goal-Setting Techniques
Growing up as a Muslim girl, I was taught the importance of family through the guidance of my family. They also taught me to rely on family in this life. However, as I matured, I realized the need to balance life with my own independence and ambitions.
In many cultures, including Western societies, women are encouraged to pursue higher education and a career, which I embraced from a young age. While I honored my family and value their advice, I ultimately make my own life decisions. I have tried to rely on people in the past (just for the sake of it), it never ends well to say the least. I believe I am too independent for that.
I learned the importance of prioritizing my well-being and not settling for less than what I deserve: as every woman should in my opinion. Developing a plan is essential for executing a graceful exit from a low vibrating environment. The same goes for reaching a new level in setting your goals straight from the start. Setting clear, purposeful goals helps you regain control of your life.
For others in similar situations, remember that recognizing your true worth and setting boundaries is vital. Seek support from trusted friends, family, or professional counselors (like a mentor or life coach).
Try to cultivate a mindset that values your safety and happiness above societal expectations. By doing so, you can navigate life’s challenges and emerge stronger and more self-assured.
Setting Goals with Purpose and Clear Boundaries
Setting clear goals is crucial in any aspect of life, whether it’s becoming a businesswoman, pursuing education, learning about technology, achieving your ideal physique, or getting married. Every goal starts with a purpose with an intention from within you. That intention, is very important and must be good for Allah to grant it to you.
To identify your true intentions, ask yourself meaningful questions: Why do you want to pursue a particular business plan? Why is being your own boss important to you? What changes do you wish to see in your life, and what purpose do these changes serve? Once you clarify your intentions, you can strategies a plan and work towards achieving them.
Creating a structured plan is essential for staying focused and motivated. By setting clear, purpose-driven goals, you align your actions with your intentions. This alignment helps eliminate distractions and allows you to concentrate on what truly matters.
Quran recitations or maintaining a regular workout routine can enhance focus and mental well-being. Personally, my gym sessions are vital for my mentality, helping me stay disciplined, focused and in control of my own actions. Also, there are so many non-muslims that listens to Quran, not knowing anything about Islam. Al Quran recitations helps them remain focused and brings peace into their hearts.
Daily practices such as Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and performing obligatory prayers have also significantly improved my focus. Avoiding haram activities and prioritizing my spiritual duties has led to greater clarity and purpose in my life.
By reducing socializing and dedicating time to self-improvement activities, I have been able to focus more on my dreams and goals. This solitary focus empowers me to channel my energy towards positive outcomes and personal growth.
This year, I have dedicated myself to inner soul work and deepening my understanding of Islam. I have distanced myself from friends and family members who distract me from reaching my goals. Instead, I spend my time reading, working out, writing, and focusing on long term goals. Occasionally, I treat myself outings, ensuring that I maintain balance and self-care.
Self-care is crucial. You must show up for yourself because no one else will do the work for you. Reaching this level of self-awareness and discipline often requires sacrifice and enduring hardships.
After separating from my ex-husband, I initially focused on surviving rather than healing. Social activities and distractions masked my underlying pain, leading to a mental burnout. However, my commitment to prayer and my relationship with Allah (SWT) provided all the strength I needed.
Although solitude has its benefits, it’s important to recognize that you can’t achieve everything alone. Building a supportive network will happen naturally, so don’t force connections, it´ll come to you.
Values That Drive Empowerment: Exploring Leadership in Islam
Understanding what drives empowerment begins with defining the term itself. Empowerment involves providing resources, opportunities, and support to help individuals or groups realize their full potential, develop self-worth, and gain agency.
When we consider platforms like these (mine), we see a clear embodiment of this empowerment. The platform has achieved significant success by including and uplifting a specific community, fostering courage, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
Diversity is essential to empower individuals. It requires a foundation that embraces all cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds. As Muslims, unity and representation are crucial in our discussions about inspiration.
Unfortunately, many talented and intelligent women around the world do not receive the recognition they deserve. Nevertheless, there is enough space for everyone to gain power and achieve genuine, healthy outcomes. You just have to seize it, gracefully and with good intention.
Embracing Islamic Empowerment
While the concept of “empowerment” is well-understood in the West, it is not universally recognized. Some women may not “believe” in women’s empowerment, mistakenly thinking it diminishes their true power. While others embody the ideology of sexism.
Does this viewpoint overlook the broader context of societal discrimination against women? I believe women who experience gender-based discrimination need support, inspiration and role figures, regardless of their beliefs.
Without the efforts of Muslim women fighting for change, platforms for Muslim girls wouldn’t be as accessible or impactful.
Let’s continue to explore the lives of strong, intelligent, noble, and inspirational women in history to understand how their achievements have paved the way for others. Their stories are a testament to empower. The impact it can have on individuals and communities, is priceless.
Empowering Stories where Muslim Women Make a Difference
Women has done remarkable progress throughout history, inspired by brave and strong individuals who paved the way for future generations.
Prominent women in Islam, such as Khadija (R.A), exemplify empowerment. As the first Muslim woman, Khadija was not only a successful businesswoman but also a pivotal supporter of the early Islamic movement. She was the first wife of our beloved Prophet (SAW). Her intelligence, hard work, and integrity made her an enduring role model, showing that women can succeed in male-dominated fields without compromising their values, self-respect and dignity.
Tributes must also go to incredible women like Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. Gloria Steinem, the American feminist and social-political activist. Sojourner Truth, the African-American abolitionist and women’s rights advocate. Fatima al-Fihri, the founder of the University of Al Quaraouiyine in Morocco, the world’s oldest existing and continuously operating educational institution.
These women have played significant roles in promoting gender equality, education, and empowerment for women globally. Historically, Muslim women have fought for equality, reflecting Islam’s principles that grant women rights and equality.
Unfortunately, misinterpretations within some communities have led to conflicts and a misrepresentation of these teachings. In Islam, Allah judges individuals based on their deeds, not their gender.
In my traditional homeland, Sudan, my early years in this life, women’s rights and empowerment are often compromised. Despite some women holding leadership positions, representation remains insufficient.
The potential for change exists, and we can enhance women’s rights by seeking greater representation and supporting more women in leadership positions. This requires bravery and a commitment to fostering growth within our communities.
Wrapping up: Steps Towards Personal Growth
Mindfulness is key. Observe your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors without judgment. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses to facilitate growth. All your feelings are valid—anger, love, fear, guilt, joy and so forth. Understanding and accepting your emotions can help you feel more in control and become more powerful.
Take care of your overall well-being. Establish routines that promote physical, mental, and emotional health, such as regular exercise, proper nutrition, adequate sleep, and stress management techniques.
Lifelong knowledge is crucial. Read books, take courses, attend workshops, move to a new country, or seek experiences that expand your knowledge and skills. Stay open to new ideas and perspectives. Challenge yourself by trying new things and taking risks, as growth often happens outside your comfort zone.
Practice self-compassion, especially during tough times. Acknowledge your efforts and progress, even if they don’t meet your expectations. Treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer a friend in similar circumstances.
View challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth. Cultivate resilience by reframing setbacks as temporary and solvable. Maintain a positive outlook and persevere in adversity. Surround yourself with supportive relationships that encourage your growth. Seek out mentors, peers, or communities that inspire, empower, holds you accountable and challenge you to be your best self.
Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Take pride in your progress and use it as motivation to continue your journey of personal growth. Recognizing and celebrating your successes can fuel your ongoing development. The best goal of them all: Building and living a fulfilling life.
Conclusion
Implement these goals step by step, focusing on your unique journey. Remember, you don’t need fancy apps or journals; simplicity can be effective. It takes about 21 days to form a habit. Use this period to build positive, healthy routines that will lead to your ultimate success in whatever you desire the most.
Think positive, rely on Allah, give yourself some slack, go to the gym and read more.
